Role 

This role leads UN-Habitat’s global work on SDG Localization and Multilevel Governance, including the SDG Cities Flagship, ensuring alignment with the 2026–2029 Strategic Plan. It coordinates the implementation and reporting of Resolution 2.6, serves as the technical focal point to the Local 2030 Coalition, and manages the SDG Localization and Local Governments Team, covering HR, finance, and operations. The role oversees global advocacy, technical cooperation with cities and countries, knowledge development, and capacity building, while also ensuring SDG Localization is mainstreamed across UN-Habitat’s HQ, regional, and country-level operations. It supports resource mobilization by liaising with donors, development banks, private sector partners, and foundations, and strengthens institutional and political engagement with local and regional governments through high-level events and UN mechanisms.

In addition, the position manages budgets, financial reports, and programme proposals; guides research, surveys, and knowledge products; and ensures quality standards across all outputs. It prepares analytical reports, background papers, and publications, provides substantive support to meetings and conferences, and organizes training workshops, seminars, and outreach activities. The role also represents UN-Habitat in global and regional fora, leads field missions, supervises consultants and partners, and supports project funding and reporting. By collecting and analyzing data, it provides insights through visualization tools to inform planning and decision-making, ensuring UN-Habitat maintains a strong and credible presence in advancing SDG Localization worldwide

Education 

An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in international development, governance, public administration, urban and regional planning, economics, law, management, or a related field is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in place of a Master’s, while additional training in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is considered desirable.  

Work experience 

A minimum of seven years’ progressive experience in sustainable development, local governance, global networks, and financial resource mobilization is required, along with proven experience in developing partnership strategies with Member States and governments. Experience in project and programme management, including financial oversight and monitoring at a managerial level, is desirable, as is at least two years of experience in data analytics or a related field.

Language 

Fluency in English (read, write, speak, understand) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
